Cascadia Composers is a new organization formed under the aegis of the NACUSA, the National Association of Composers, USA, in the fall of 2008. Its mission is to "promote the composition and performance of contemporary classical music by regional composers, stimulate national and international awareness of this music,  and gather composers to disseminate information pertinent to its members and the community."

Performance: Wed, June 3rd, 8pm, First Congregational, 1126 S.W. Park Ave. Living in Japan at the time of the 1989 Tienamen Square Massacre, American composer Jack Gabel responded by composing In the Land of Wu. This is 1 of 4 works presented by the Portland Vocal Consort, and the Dickson String Quartet, with soprano Nancy Wood and pianist Jeff Winslow. Program also includes Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8, and Derek Healey's The Silvered Lute: A Wang Wei Song Album.

Sylvia Smith is the owner and publisher of Smith Publications of Baltimore, one of the premiere music publishers of American Contemporary Music. Stuart Saunders Smith is a well known composer of contemporary classical music and Professor of Music Composition at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus.
