Patty Quake (1999)
by Dan Senn
Quake One: "Twenty One"
Consists of 8 sections of 39",
3'06", 1', 2'45", 1'21", 2'24", 1'42"
and 2'03". Within each of these, the pendulums on each line
will vibrate for 18" in varying
relationships. Duration = 15 minutes.
Quake Two: "Deep Sweep"
Consists of 5 sections of 3'23",
6'43", 5'08", 5'43" and 4'33" and is made
from a 3'23" frequency sweep rising and falling between 0
to 9 cycles/second. Each section is characterized by a change
in the silence offsetting a phase.
Duration = 25 minutes and 30 seconds.
Quake Three: "Adjacent Fades"
Consists of 6 sections of 3',
2'20", 3', 4'20", 4'20" and 2'20" and is made
from variations on matched and unmatched resonant frequencies*
taken from the adjacent pendulum line.
Duration = 19 minutes and 23 seconds.
Quake Four: "Fibinachi Hour"
Consists of 7 events/pendulum
line spread over a one hour period according to fibinachi number
relationships. Vibrations become synchronized on the hour.
Duration = 1 hour.
Quake Five: "Thirteen"
Consists of 3 sections of 6', 9' and 3' with 13 events spread randomly on each line for each section. Duration = 18 minutes.
Notes: Each pendulum line vibrates according to a unique and slightly varying subaudio frequency stored on CD. More can be learned about the sculpture and music at www.newsense-intermedium.com.
* Resonant frequencies for each
pendulum line.
pendulum line one = 6.079 hz
pline two = 8.012 hz
pline three = 6.029 hz
pline four = 6.023 hz
pline five = 6.028 hz
pline six = 6.115 hz
pline seven = 6.033 hz
pline eight = 6.004 hz
