David Berry was born 1950, in Ohio and came to California in 1971 to study film at CalArts. He worked for Industrial Light & Magic 1976-1985 and won the Academy Award for Visual Effects for Cocoon 1985. What eventually became NEW VERSIONS was started in 1986. Music by Turkantam and Randall Packer Randall Packer composed the music for the piece (Bell)n, one of segments in New Versions. He is a pioneering composer and media artist in the Packer is the former director of the acclaimed Multimedia Studies Program of San Francisco State University and is currently working on a book chronicling the history of multimedia. He is also a co-founder of Zakros InterArts/New Music Theater, which publishes an interactive CD-ROM of NewVersions. The images of ten of New Versions' segments are synchronized to music created by internationally recognized composer and musician Turkantam. Born in Italy, Turkantam's music is a fusion of traditional instruments and modern technology. He has toured extensively through Europe, as well as India and the United States and now records under his own label, Saraswati. New Versions combines layers of film, animation and digital effects for an award winning unique illusionary journey. Created by Academy Award winner David Berry (Visual Effects for Cocoon, 1985), New Versions challenges your senses with images that mix abstract and natural elements. The images are synchronized to music created by internationally recognized composer and musician Turkantam and composer and media artist Randall Packer. New Versions elevates the music video experience into a new, passionate art form. Some of the visuals from New Versions were used to accompany Ceiba's 1 + 1 = 1 techno music and were broadcast on MTV's AMP.
