Paul A. Oehlers completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in only four years 
time, becoming the youngest master's graduate in the one hundred twenty-five year 
history of the University of the Arts. His works have been performed throughout the 
United States, Latin America, South America, and Europe including at a command 
performance for former United States President Ronald Reagan, Walt Disney World, 
the Gamper New Music Festival, the College Music Society National Conference, the 
Glassboro Center for the Performing Arts, Studio PANorama - Sdo Paolo, Brazil, and 
at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. A recent master's graduate from 
the University of Illinois, Mr. Oehlers is currently attending the University of 
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in pursuit of his doctorate. He has studied 
composition with William Brooks, Zack Browning, P.Q. Phan, and Scott Wyatt.

Spawn explores the evolutions of sound objects and their interaction within a 
spatial environment. The texture in each of these environments becomes saturated 
to the point of overload when a new landscape is introduced, in eaqh Qf these 
land,50apes, the sound objects undergo a transformation, at some points reverting 
to a stage reminiscent of earlier ones.

Spawn was commissioned by Scott A. Wyatt in celebration of the fortieth 
anniversary of the University of Illinois Experimental Music Studios.
