Manos Tsangaris
is born 1956 in Dusseldorf and was a student at the Musikhochschule
Cologne where he studied composition and new music theater with
Mauricio Kagel and percussion with Christoph Caskel. In 1980 he
worked the first time at the theater for the Münchner Kammerspiele
and has since participated several times at the Darmstadter Ferienkurse.
Tsangaris has been a recipient of numerous grants and fellowships
inlcuding, the Werkstipendium des Kunstfonds of Bonne (1990).
V., the Bernd-Alois-Zimmermann grant from the city of Cologne
(1991), and the fellowship of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in
Stuttgart (1993/94). In 1997 he received the music award of the
Academy of the Fine Arts Berlin. He has been 'composer in residence'
in Moscow as well as the project director of 'Progetto Cicitella
d'Agliano' in Italy. In 1991 he conceived and organized the "premodern
Congress" in Cologne which which included nearly sixty theorists,
artists, musicians, writers and media figures from throughout
Europe. He has been a poet since the seventies and has published
since 1986 his poems and other texts with the Thurmchen Press.
Tsangaris lives and works as a composer-percussionist in Cologne,
Germany.
