Kovové Obaly 4K Video with Stereo or Quad Sound by Dan Senn Duration 9:08 (Click banner image to enlarge) |

Pouze Kovové Obaly was filmed in Holešovice, Prague, at two locations on Na Maninách
(street). The English title, "Metal Cans Only", is text from the side of a recycle bin in the work. The sound track is from Flat Works was composed and performed, improvised, just before the filming. Both artifacts/projects, were produced at
Gasworks Studio also in Prague 7. The film is comprised of rhythmic mappings of two groups of recycle bins using a process borrowed from the sound track improvisations. The videos were filmed an hour apart, the clips then sorted as one file and edited sequentially (Location A #1, then Location Clip B #1, then Location A #2 followed by Location B #2, etc.) causing an interweaving of objects. As
the filmed objects were similar, but for graffiti, labeling and dirt, a
perceptual reconstruction of these bins appears as fragmented narratives. This sorting method was
duplicated, analogously, with the sound improvisations recorded from
random studio/flat objects, the mediums merged in the final
editing. With the two film locations having almost identical objects, bins, and with each recorded "found object" from Flat Works representing "locations" of another sort, a unique, composite artifacts are generated. An interdisciplinary artist working solo, I have used strategies like this as a way of communicating meaning unknown to myself and, perhaps, to patrons. It is a distinctive method enabling spontaneous outcomes neither simplistic nor propagandistic. DS062224 |
