Flutterbye Four (see video)

Made from found metal resonators, 3/16-inch
threaded rod, piezos pickups,
bambo, hardware, pvc and weighted washers.I
nstruments are played by
releasing washers (moths) which cascade
(flutter) downward over threaded
rod.Rhythm of fall controlled by turns in rod
(ex. counterclockwise vs clockwise)
and washer balance.Sounds generated by
fluttering moths colored by metal
resonators. Moths are held by bamboo strips
(see detail below) and released
when strips pulled from side during performance.
Four channel output manually
or algorithmically (automatically) mixed to
stereo field. Instruments are
presented in standing installations and as
part of audience participation pieces
during live performances.
