Scrapercussion #9 is the last scrapercussion constructed in a series which began in 1978 and ended here, on what would become the campus of the University of Washington-Tacoma. The first scrapercussion was built in Chicago in 1978 for a presentation at Northern Illinois University, and, soon after, at the very 1st Roulette Intermedium event (Roulette is now located in New York City) which was held in the Old Town School in Chicago. Five other scrapercussions, #2-#6, were then built in Canberra, Australia for the "Our Broken Toys" in 1981. In 1988, #7 was commissioned by the Performers' Workshop Ensemble followed by #8 which was built for the Percussive Arts Society Conference in Texas. Scrapercussion #9 was made for a Kittredge Gallery exhibition at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma adn while it differs from the tree like structure of the other scrapercussions, all of which use a crossed and central chassis (#9 uses a gas tank as chassis), the concept is the generally the same as delineated in my writings on the matter.

The musical accompaniment on the video is the that of Scrapercussion #8 as recorded in the Fine Arts Computer Lab at Ball State University in about 1990.
