Bricks
For Stereo Fixed Media (hear sample of work)
duration = 4'31"
Middle Bricks was realized
 at Studio FMEra in Watertown, WI, the USA, on December 21, 2021 using 19th Century bricks that were struck, smacked together, dragged, knocked with a wooden kitchen spoon, etc. by the composer. These were fired in 1848 at the Watertown Brick Yards where the artist's Great Grandfather, Phillip Bender, labored, and made available for aesthetic purposes by the construction of a new recording and rehearsal space
to Studio FMEra.

Use headphones when listening to the audio sample.
The above photo is a chunk of bricks sledged from a 3 window bay sacrificed for the expansion of Studio FMEra. The charming bay had been the secret home, for over a hundred years. of largest hornet nest in human history, the mysterious source of many years of double trouble in and outside the old house.

Middle Bricks is a "second generation" improvisation from an Ableton Live Set that consists of numerous brick improvisations. The original recordings, each a standalone work, aka "first generation" improv, can be heard in part in the final section of Three Panes titled Staking Pains and then throughout the video and sound work Habitat. Middle Bricks uses the middle area the BrikBottle AL Set , thus the title.
